Keep them posted
Pass it on ๐
Sharing is now built right into trips, experiences, and member profiles. You'll find a share button sitting above the reaction section on any trip or experience detail page, and on member profiles too.
Tap it and you get three options: send straight to WhatsApp, copy a link, or use your phone's native share sheet โ whatever's fastest for you.
If you've written a travel experience or posted a trip and wanted to share it with someone outside the site, this is exactly what you were waiting for.
Stay in the loop ๐
Planning to visit a destination and want to know when others post trips there? You can now subscribe to trip notifications without even being logged in.
On any destination page โ or directly on the trips listing โ look for the subscribe widget. Pick the scope you care about (a whole country, a region, or just a city), confirm your email, and you're set. When new trips get posted in that area, you'll hear about it.
Already a member? Head to My Subscriptions to see everything you've signed up for and adjust your preferences at any time.
Bring your people ๐ค
Know someone who'd love 12TravelBuddy? Now there's a reason beyond just recommending it. Referral badges have landed โ earn one for bringing your first friend, and keep stacking them at 3 and 10 activated referrals.
They show up on your profile alongside your other badges, and yes, they glow at higher rarities.
Write without the worry โ๏ธ
If you've ever started writing a travel experience and then accidentally navigated away โ or worried about losing a long draft โ this one's for you.
The experience editor now auto-saves your draft every 1.5 seconds. A quiet "saved" indicator in the corner confirms your words are safe. And if you do try to leave, you'll get a prompt first โ so nothing disappears without warning.
Your stories, in one place
There's now a dedicated My Experiences page where you can see everything you've submitted, with a clear colour-coded status badge on each card โ Draft, Pending, Approved, or Rejected.
No more guessing where a submission stands. Head to your dashboard and it's all there.
That's what's new. Go share a trip, subscribe to a destination you're dreaming about, or finally finish that travel story you started. ๐

There's a group for that.
Travel planning gets easier when you can find people going to the same city, not just the same country โ so that's exactly what groups do now.
๐บ๏ธ Getting specific
Each destination group has now split into two levels: a country home and the cities or regions underneath it. Head to /groups/japan and you'll see a strip of sub-groups โ Tokyo, Osaka, Kyushu, wherever people have been gathering. Click into one and you're in a focused thread for that exact place.
The URLs are clean: /groups/japan/tokyo goes straight there. If you've bookmarked or shared an old link, it still works.
๐ณ๏ธ A more recognizable look
The groups listing got a visual refresh too. Destination groups now show the country flag as their card image, so scanning down the page feels more like flipping through a travel atlas. Interest groups โ Solo Travelers, Budget Backpackers, and so on โ take a different look: a bold icon on a slate background. That makes it easy to tell at a glance whether you're browsing by place or by travel style.
๐ Put your city on the map
Sub-groups aren't set in stone โ you can request one. If a city or region is missing from a country group, there's a request button right on the page. Submit it, and the status shows up in your dashboard under the Globe card so you can track it.
It means the directory can grow with the community rather than falling behind it.
Go explore /groups and see where your travel interests take you. โ๏ธ

A lot just got better
Since the last update, a lot has landed on 12TravelBuddy. Badges, photos, a proper writing editor, searchable forums, and smarter ways to find the trips and destinations that matter to you. Here's what's new.
Earn your place โ badges are here
Every community has its regulars โ the ones who've posted a dozen trips, replied to every forum question, made connections across the world. Now there's a way to show that.
12TravelBuddy has a full badge system: 30 badges spread across five rarity tiers, from Common to Mythic. You earn them by doing what you're already doing โ posting trips, connecting with members, contributing to the forum, writing travel articles. Some are easy to pick up. Others take a while.
Head to /my-badges to see your full collection, with a progress bar showing exactly how close you are to each one you haven't unlocked yet. When you earn something new, a notification pops up to tell you. On member profiles, badges show up with a rarity glow โ the rarer the badge, the more it stands out.
It's a small thing that makes the community feel a lot more real.
Your photos, in one place
You can now upload a personal photo library to your account. Drop in shots from your travels, manage them from a gallery page, and remove anything you no longer want. It's your own collection, tied to your profile.
Which brings us to what you can actually do with those photos.
Write the way you actually want to
Posts, forum replies, group discussions, travel articles, direct messages โ all of them now have a proper rich-text editor. Format your writing, add links, and โ crucially โ insert images directly from your photo library right into the body of what you're writing.
No more plain text boxes. If you're writing up a travel experience and want to drop in a photo from the trip, you can. If you're answering a forum question and a picture helps, use one. If you're in a group chat and want to share something visual, it's right there.
You can also send images directly in private messages now. Just attach a photo and it shows up inline in the conversation.
Find what you're looking for, faster
A few things got smarter on the discovery side.
The forum now has full-text search. Go to /forum/search, type a keyword, and get ranked results across all threads. Useful if you're looking for advice on a specific destination, a type of trip, or anything else that's been discussed before.
Travel articles can be tagged by topic now โ adventure, culture, food, solo travel, and more. Tags show up as pills on each article, and clicking one takes you to a page collecting every article with that tag. If you're in the mood to read about a particular kind of trip, you'll find what you're looking for without having to scroll.
Filter by continent
On the Destinations and Trips pages there's now a continent filter. If you're only interested in what's happening in Asia, South America, or Africa, one click narrows the whole page down. Useful if you have a rough region in mind and want to explore without wading through the whole world at once.
That's a lot. And there's more coming. In the meantime โ upload some photos, check your badge progress, and see what you'd write if you had a proper editor to do it with.

Another big update.
The Community is Coming to Life
A lot has changed on 12TravelBuddy lately. Here's what's new โ and why it makes finding your next travel buddy a whole lot easier.
Dream it, plan it, find your people
Travel starts with a list in your head. Now it has a place to live.
Every member can keep a personal bucketlist of countries they want to visit โ drag them into whatever order makes sense, mark individual ones as private if you're not ready to share, and flip the whole thing public when you are. Check out someone's profile and you'll see where they're dreaming of going next. That's often a better conversation starter than where they've already been.
The world map picked up on this too. It used to show just where members are right now. Now it shows three things at once: where people are travelling, where people want to travel (bucketlist countries glow amber), and โ newest of all โ where people have upcoming planned trips (those show up in sky blue). Scroll over a country and you get a real sense of the community around it, not just who happened to be there last week.
On individual country pages, there's now a card showing other members who have that destination on their wishlist. And if someone is currently there and has it on their list, they get a "Ticking it off!" badge. Small touch, but it makes the pages feel alive.
Actual dates, actual plans
For a travel community, we were embarrassingly vague about dates. That's fixed.
When you post a trip you now set a proper start and end date with a date picker โ no more freehand text. Not sure of the exact dates yet? Check "Approximate dates" and it shows up with a badge so people know your window is flexible. Trip cards and detail pages all show the dates cleanly now.
Those dates power something genuinely useful: the new /calendar page. It pulls together all upcoming trips and meetups from across the community, sorted by date, in one public page anyone can browse without logging in. Switch between a list view and a calendar grid, or filter it down to a specific date range. If you're planning a trip and want to see who else is on the move around the same time, this is where you look.
The UK, properly
England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland are now real destinations on the site โ not just footnotes under "United Kingdom". You can select any of them when posting a trip, creating a meetup, or filling in your profile. Each nation has its own destination hub page with its own members, trips, and meetups, and there's a combined /destination/united-kingdom page that rolls them all up together.
Easier to use, faster to load
Behind the scenes โ and sometimes in front of it โ the experience got a meaningful polish.
There's now a My Dashboard at /my-dashboard: a personal home base with quick links to everything you care about, plus a live feed of what your connections have been up to. The navigation menu was streamlined at the same time, and "My Posts" was renamed to "My Stories" โ because that's what they are.
Profile photo uploads now include a crop tool so you can frame your picture exactly right, and the image is automatically saved in a smaller, optimised format. The homepage hero loads several times faster on mobile than it used to. The site overall feels snappier โ less jumping around when pages first load, quicker initial load times.
A lot more in the works. In the meantime โ post a trip, add some countries to your bucketlist, and see who's planning to be in the same place as you.

What's New on TravelBuddy โ May 2026 Update
A quick look at what we've been building for you over the past few weeks.
We've been heads-down making TravelBuddy a better, safer, and more fun place to plan trips and meet fellow travelers. Here's what just landed.
A Real Trust Signal: Age Verification
Finding a travel buddy is a big deal. You're talking about sharing accommodation, splitting costs, and spending real time with someone โ so knowing that person is who they say they are matters.
We've added voluntary age verification powered by a privacy-first service called didit.me. If you choose to verify, the process is quick and you walk away with a small verified age badge on your profile. No ID copies stored on our end, no personal data beyond a simple "yes, this checks out."
When you're browsing trips or member profiles, keep an eye out for the shield icon โ it means that traveler has confirmed their stated age is genuine. It's entirely optional, but we think it'll quickly become one of the most meaningful signals on the platform.
Finding the Right Travel Buddy Just Got a Lot Better
We rebuilt how discovery works from the ground up. A few highlights:
Smarter search. Searching for trips or members now actually works the way you'd expect โ partial matches, typos, and all. Type "Vietn" and you'll still find Vietnam.
Way more filters. Looking for a French-speaking travel partner in their 30s who prefers slow travel? You can now filter the member directory by language, age range, travel style, and more. The trips directory got the same treatment.
"Where are you?" presence. You can now pin the countries you're currently in or heading to soon. Browse the /destination pages to see who else is around or planning to be there โ it's a great way to find someone spontaneously.
Map view on trips. Switch to map mode on the trips page and see where everyone's headed at a glance. Click a country to see the trips pinned there.
Compatibility scores. Every trip and member card now shows how well you'd travel together based on shared language, age, travel style, and pace. It's not a dealbreaker either way โ just a helpful nudge.
Saved searches with alerts. Set up a search for your dream trip (say, "trekking in Nepal, June, solo female traveler") and we'll email or push-notify you the moment something matching comes up. No more refreshing the page every day.
A Whole Lot More to Do and Talk About
TravelBuddy used to be mostly about posting and browsing trips. Now it's a place where actual conversations happen.
Comments on trip posts. You can now comment directly on any trip listing โ ask a question, offer advice, or just show some love. Replies are threaded one level deep so it stays readable.
Groups and destination forums. We've launched 40+ groups across destinations and travel interests โ everything from "Southeast Asia Backpackers" to "Solo Female Travelers" to "Digital Nomads." Jump in, start a thread, meet people you'd never have crossed paths with otherwise.
Local meetups. Passing through a city and want to grab a coffee with other travelers? Post a meetup. Heading to Bangkok next week? Check if anyone's already hosting one. It's casual, low-commitment, and genuinely fun.
Profile feed. Your profile now has a small feed where you can post what you're up to โ a travel update, a question, a photo caption. Other members can react and comment. Think of it as a lightweight travel journal that lives right next to your profile.
Reactions everywhere. You can now react with ๐ โค๏ธ ๐ ๐ฎ ๐ข ๐ on trip posts, comments, group threads, DMs, blog posts, and more. Small thing, big difference in how alive the site feels.
Video call vetting inside DMs. Before you commit to traveling with someone, you can now start a video call directly from your DM thread โ no app switch, no shared phone numbers. One click, instant room, peer-to-peer. It's probably the easiest way to do a quick "are we a good match?" check before booking anything.
Help Us Find More Good People
We put a lot of care into building a community worth being part of โ and communities only grow through word of mouth.
If you've found a travel buddy here, had a great conversation in a group, or just like what we're building โ tell someone about it. A message to a friend who travels, a share in a travel Facebook group, a mention in a subreddit you hang out in โ it all adds up.
The more good people who find us, the better every trip listing, every group thread, and every connection becomes. We're not a big corporate travel platform trying to sell you a package holiday. We're a small community that gets better the more real travelers show up.
So: thank you for being here. And if you know someone who'd belong here too โ send them our way.

My profile page Just Got a Big Upgrade ๐บ๏ธ
We quietly rolled out a bunch of improvements to the profile page, and honestly it was long overdue. Here's what's new and why we think you'll love it.
Tell people who you actually are
Until now, your profile was pretty bare-bones: a nickname, a photo, and a short "about me". That's not a lot to go on when you're deciding whether to reach out to a stranger and ask if they want to backpack Southeast Asia together.
So we added a whole new Travel Profile section. You can now share:
Languages you speak โ a huge deal when you're travelling together and need to navigate, negotiate, or just chat on a 12-hour bus ride
Countries you've visited โ because knowing someone's been to 40 countries (or 4!) says a lot about how they travel
Your travel style โ city tripper? Beach bum? Adventure seeker? Pick what fits
Your travel pace โ relaxed, average, or full-speed-ahead. Pace mismatches are one of the most common reasons travel buddies don't click, so let's surface this upfront
Interests and hobbies โ food, photography, hiking, live music โ whatever makes you you
Instagram โ optional,
All with privacy controls (more on that below)
Answer three short prompts
This is probably our favourite addition. Instead of staring at a blank "about me" box, you now have three prompts to answer:
Best trip so far โ your highlight reel. Gets people talking.
My ideal travel buddy โ what you're actually looking for, in plain words.
My travel dealbreakers โ the honest stuff. Do you need your own room? Hate early mornings? Can't do hostels? Say it here so there are no surprises.
These answers show up on your public profile and give other members a real feel for whether you'd travel well together โ way more than a list of countries ever could.
More gender options
The old gender field only had Male, Female, and "not specified". That's not good enough. You can now choose from:
Male
Female
Non-binary
Other
Prefer not to say
Same goes for the "looking for" preference when posting a trip โ we swapped the old "Male or Female" option for a simple Any, and added Non-binary as a standalone option.
A completion meter so you know where you stand
There's now a progress bar at the top of your profile page showing how complete your profile is, as a percentage. Fill in more sections, watch it go up. Simple, but it turns out having a number to chase actually works โ just ask LinkedIn.
A complete profile means more people will reach out to you, and more people will say yes when you reach out to them.
Your privacy, your rules
Here's the part we're most proud of. Every new field has its own visibility setting, so you're in control of who sees what:
Members only โ only logged-in members of 12TravelBuddy can see this. This is the default for everything.
Public โ anyone who visits your profile can see it, even if they're not signed in.
Connections only โ only people you've accepted as connections can see it. This is the default for your Instagram handle specifically.
You set this per field, right there on the profile page, with a small dropdown next to each section. No digging through settings menus.
Go update your profile
Seriously โ the more you fill in, the better your matches will be. Head to My Profile and spend ten minutes on it. Your future travel buddy is out there waiting.

Welcome to 12TravelBuddy - Find Your Perfect Travel Buddy โ๏ธ
Ever had the feeling:
โI really want to travelโฆ but I donโt have anyone to go with?โ
Yeah โ same here. And thatโs exactly why 12TravelBuddy was created.
Soโฆ what is 12TravelBuddy?
Letโs start with the name, because it actually says everything.
โ12โ = โwant toโ
So 12TravelBuddy simply means:
๐ โWant to Travel Buddyโ
Itโs a question, an idea, and a starting point all in one.
Because letโs be honest โ traveling is amazing, but itโs often even better when you share it with someone.
Why this platform exists
A lot of people want to travel more. But in reality, things get in the way:
- Your friends donโt have time (or money ๐ธ)
- Your partner isnโt into the same destinations
- Solo travel feels a bit intimidating
- Or you just want to meet new people along the way
Thatโs where 12TravelBuddy comes in.
The goal is simple:
๐ Help people find a travel buddy and turn travel ideas into real trips
No complicated setup. No pressure. Just a place to connect with like-minded travelers.
What you can do here
Whether youโre a planner or more of a โbook it tomorrowโ type, this platform is for you.
On 12TravelBuddy, youโll be able to:
- Find people who want to travel to the same destination
- Connect with travelers who match your vibe
- Share trip ideas and plans
- Turn โmaybe somedayโ into โletโs goโ
A safer way to connect ๐
Weโve also built in a simple system to keep things comfortable and safe:
- You can send and receive connection requests
- You only become connected after the other person accepts
- Chat is only unlocked after a mutual connection
That means:
๐ You wonโt receive random messages from strangers
๐ You stay in control of who you talk to
This way, you can focus on planning your trip โ without unwanted messages or pressure.
Why a travel blog?
Good question.
This blog isnโt just here for updates โ itโs here to help you actually travel better.
Youโll find:
- Travel tips and inspiration ๐
- Advice on finding the right travel buddy
- Safety tips for traveling with new people
- Destination ideas and guides
- Stories and insights from real travelers
(And yes โ this also helps people discover 12TravelBuddy when theyโre searching for things like โfind a travel buddyโ or โtravel with strangers safelyโ ๐)
Built for travelers, by travelers
12TravelBuddy is still growing โ and thatโs part of the journey.
Itโs being built with one goal in mind:
๐ Make it easier for anyone to travel, even if they donโt have someone to go with (yet).
If youโre here early, youโre not just a user โ youโre part of shaping what this becomes.
Ready to find your travel buddy?
Next time you think:
โI want to travelโฆโ
You know what comes next.
๐ Find your travel buddy.
Welcome to 12TravelBuddy โ where your next trip starts with a simple idea.
(Quick SEO recap โ naturally included)
Travel buddy, find travel partner, travel with others, solo travel alternative, travel community โ all in one place.
Letโs make travel more social. ๐
